Three layers, three separate passes. At the centre the sage-green ground carrying the tulip and the three hearts — the blossom in red, the hearts red with a blue core. Around it a narrow border in rose and pale blue, its fine stripes drawn by leading the colour through the water with a comb. Outermost, a strong pink in battal pattern. Each layer is made on the water on its own and lifted in a single motion; they only meet when the sheet is mounted, and no combination can be hit exactly the same way twice. Made on acid-free ebru paper with natural pigments and ox gall.
