This piece lives on a single line: the long leaf reaches from the lower edge almost to the height of the blossom and carries the whole movement of the image. In floral ebru the colour is placed on the water drop by drop and drawn into shape with a fine stylus — a leaf of this length only succeeds in one continuous pull, without lifting and without correction. The tulip above it is held in magenta and violet, framed by a lilac inner border and a turquoise-blue ground with dark veins. Made on acid-free ebru paper with natural pigments and ox gall.
