A tall, narrow field — and high within it, a single carnation in purple with a pale heart. The stem runs down in one pull, the leaves opening to either side like a fan. In floral ebru each of these lines is drawn on the water with a fine stylus and lifted by the paper in a single motion; nothing can be touched up afterwards. A narrow gold line separates the field from the border, a battal pattern of violet, olive green and cream — the oldest form of ebru, where the colour is flicked on and taken off without further working. Made on acid-free ebru paper with natural pigments and ox gall.
