The hercai menekşe — the pansy — is among the most demanding motifs in floral ebru. Each petal is laid onto the water surface one at a time and drawn into shape with a fine stylus; the paper then lifts the finished image in a single motion. Nothing can be corrected: what happens on the water happens once. The violet layers of the flower, the golden heart and the deep green leaves are built up in sequence, each upon the last. The motif is held by a turquoise inner border with a fine gold rule and a strong violet-and-gold marbled ground. Made on acid-free ebru paper with natural pigments and ox gall.
