A single tulip, drawn by hand upon water: the bud in violet and magenta, the long leaf edged in blue, bending downward in a quiet curve. It stands on a pale sage-green panel, framed by a lilac marbled border and fine rule lines drawn by hand once the sheet has dried. Around it a cool marbling in turquoise and navy plays across the field. The tulip (lâle) is the beloved emblem of Ottoman art — its letters are the same as those of the word for God. A handmade one-of-a-kind piece in a simple black frame; each pattern forms only once.
