Alone in this series, this tulip is no longer closed: the petals have parted and a pale pink rises between them. The long leaf swings to the left, carrying a clear yellow at its tip and a deep blue along the rib. The whole flower begins as a single drop of colour upon the water — only the outward pull of the needle brings the petals into being, one after another. The further they open, the more strokes it has taken, and the less may go wrong. The calm sage-green battal ground lets the movement stand on its own. A handmade one-of-a-kind piece in a simple black frame; each pattern forms only once.
